Today the shippers sourcing requirements focus only on the technical aspects of the transport, such as Euro classification and driver training. The process, the part of the value chain that the provider is in a position to influence, isn’t in focus at all. Euro classification is not the same as the right size of engine nor does a training means that trucks are driven energy smartly.
To buy a truck or put a driver through training doesn’t take any skills at all and can be performed by anyone. Unfortunately, freight buyer’s shallow interest in true environmental issues penalizes those companies that actually pay a great interest in process performance, creating unhealthy competition.
